Ackerbau is an urban design proposal for two neighbouring areas in a suburb of Münster / Germany. The surroundings are a mixture of larger university buildings, small single occupancy houses and open countryside.

Space 1 – Our main idea was to extend the adjacent university area into this space and we therefore proposed some educational facilities, student dormitories, a commercially used building and a wide open space. Departing from the existing building snapping off jets extend over the ground. On these jets the building ropes are placed. Beside the oblong building form the buildings are supposed to act as a unit and/or as campus through a homogeneous processing of the facade. The buildings are due to their depth adjusted to one side.

Space 2 – For the second space we proposed a purely residential development. The individual living-units are strung out along a street and frames connect the fronts and underline their relationship. Different living-modules with depths from 7 m to 12 m can be placed beside and above each other. The living-modules have sizes of 70 square meters to 180 square meters. The different floor plans find expression in varied facade proportions although the facade materials always remain the same. The street side of the houses is visually closed and forms a clear line. In comparison the garden side is fragmented and cut out to create balconies and roof gardens. The two opposing housing rows are widely separated with the garden between separated into three defined areas; two private strips which lie lower flank a higher public strip in the middle.
